Interior Parts

Automotive interior designers and manufacturers are beginning to utilize large format 3D printing as a solution for building custom upholstered interiors from scratch.

The parts they are 3D printing in-house consist of dashboards, center consoles, headliners, door panels, steering wheels and more with integrated audio and visual systems to improve the vehicle’s aesthetics and functionality.

JK Automotive Designs
case study

“For this ‘73 Bronco console, we 3D printed with our in-house BigRep 3D printer. This is by far the largest print we have tried and couldn’t have been happier with the results. The console consists of 6 main printed parts that bolt and magnetize together to create this massive console that we could not have made by hand.”
- Jeremy Katz, owner of JK Automotive Designs in Stoneham, Massachusetts

1) 3D Model

The center console was first created as a 3D CAD model. Designing for 3D printing allows the center console to be highly customized.

2) 3D Print

The center console consists of six printed parts that bolt and magnetize together to create the massive end-use product.

3) Integrate

The center console is then post-processed. Generally, this is done through sanding, then either painting or upholstering to deliver a finished part.
