Desktop Metal?

Desktop Metal exists to make metal 3D printing accessible to all engineers, designers, and manufacturers. Desktop Metal manufactures 3D printing solutions for all scales of production—from complex prototypes and on-demand tooling to the rapid manufacture of thousands of parts.

Desktop Metal 3D printers are office-friendly, end-to-end metal 3D printing systems. Aside from the printers, Desktop Metal also includes furnaces for sintering.

Metal 3D printer are “green”. The printer uses filament that is filled with small, metal rods. During debinding, the binding material (wax and polymer binders) is dissolved thanks to a proprietary liquid substance. The part is left porous and must go in the furnace for its particles to fuse and densify the part.

Studio System 2

Unlike laser-based systems that selectively melt metal powder, the Studio System extrudes bound metal rods—similar to how an FDM printer works. This eliminates many of the safety requirements often associated with metal 3D printing while enabling new features like the use of fully closed-cell infill for lightweight strength.

Shop System

The Shop System from Desktop Metal is a high-capacity 3D printing solution designed for the production of metal parts in a manufacturing environment. With its advanced Single Pass Jetting (SPJ) technology, the Shop System can produce metal parts up to 10 times faster than traditional powder-based systems, with exceptional part quality and consistency. The system features an automated powder handling system, a built-in sintering furnace, and an intuitive software interface that allows for easy part programming and job setup. With the Shop System, you can reduce your lead times, increase your production capacity, and unlock new opportunities for metal part production.

Production System

The Production System from Desktop Metal is a revolutionary 3D printing solution designed for the mass production of metal parts. With its unique Single Pass Jetting (SPJ) technology, the Production System can produce metal parts at speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional powder-based systems, while maintaining exceptional part quality and consistency. The system features a fully automated powder handling system, a high-speed printhead array, and a modular furnace design that allows for continuous production with minimal downtime. With the Production System, you can achieve unprecedented throughput and scalability in metal part production, while reducing your costs and improving your competitiveness.


Designed to be the easiest to use sintering furnace made, the Studio System 2 furnace first heats parts to remove all binders from parts, then ramps up the temperature to near-melting to deliver industrial-strength sintering in an office-friendly package. Built-in temperature profiles tuned to every build and material ensure uniform heating and cooling without the residual stresses introduced in laser-based systems.
